Barocco+ in Lviv
The end of the month will see Barocco+, a new festival of early music by the Lviv National Philharmonic, from 24 October to 3 November. Our Foundation is helping to present it. Our director, Serhiy Havrylyuk, is the festival's artistic director. The festival will feature a variety of baroque music performed throughout Lviv.

Felix Thiedemann and the Festival Orchestra
Felix Thiedemann, our artistic advisor, will arrive mid-month to work with Leopolis 415, our resident ensemble, and with the Barocco+ Festival Orchestra. The orchestra is made up of students and young professionals, and for some of them it will be their first time playing on gut strings. Joining local musicians will be players from across Ukraine. We look forward to welcoming them to our space!
A harpsichord weekend
On 16–18 October we will host a harpsichord weekend with talented young students from Dnipro. We will share details here soon.
A new aria for Anna Starushkevych
Also joining us for Barocco+ will be mezzo-soprano Anna Starushkevych from Cambridge, UK. Her charitable foundation, Music Will Save the World, has commissioned a new neo-baroque aria for mezzo-soprano. It combines baroque tradition with contemporary Ukrainian poetry and cultural experience. Anna will sing the premiere with Leopolis 415.
Strings from Aquila
Getting baroque strings for this many players has not been easy. A big thanks to Aquila Corde Armoniche, one of Europe's leading string makers, and to its founder, Mimmo Peruffo. The Italian company has generously donated much of what the festival needs.

Organ studies in Lviv
In early October, Larry spent several days in Kraków to meet the Polish organist Krzysztof Urbaniak, a fine performer who also teaches in Poland and Germany. They talked at length about a new program of organ studies at the Lviv National Music Academy. We hope the program will begin soon. For now, the Hub's van Vulpen practice organ will be the main instrument for study, and we are discussing ways to add more instruments in Lviv for daily practice.
It’s an exciting time here, and there is a lot of great music still to come!
